I was tasked to create a site that allows you to purchase movie tickets and watch trailers at the same time. The goal was to create a user flow that was self explanatory and quick for people on the go. This was my first google UX assignment. Real users were used in all user research. I used Figma and finished it off with Adobe XD.
Convenience and speed were key!
This was a Google UX course assignment but I did do real user research involving real users from different ages and life styles. Users made it clear that they wanted to be fast if they were in a hurry. Also users that lived in suburban areas needed the apps to be convenient due to limited venues to pick from. The following personas were created from user research.
Competition and Informed Design
Based on my competitive audit, it was clear that some direct competitors did make it as streamlined as possible. There were unnecessary steps and even trailers that did not work. Indirect competitors such as IMDB did not make it easy to search or purchase movie tickets as it was clear that it was not the primary purpose of the site. That page of the site was not easy find. This research informed my designs further!
High Fidelity Prototype
I got to work with these thing in mind. I wanted to keep user information in mind while creating the next step. The goal was to streamline the ordering process as much as possible. One thing I did add that most users appreciate was an estimated drive time. A user explained, " I never estimate this right! If this was actually a part of the app, this would help people like me!"
All in all, this was a great first project to get my feet wet. As I said, I tried to treat it as real as possible. I asked all users to be brutally honest with me as I was hoping to do this for a living. All criticism was welcomed. The completed product was well received. A user that uses real apps wished it was this easy and streamlined. The estimated drive time was one of the favorite features. I started the project with Figma and finished it with Adobe XD. I wanted to use both with the goal of learning as much as I could.
